Father James T. Devine died on Nov. 1 – All Saints Day – at the age of 88. After being ordained a priest on May 28, 1960, he was assigned as an assistant at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Bayside. The parish had just completed a new gymnasium, so he became heavily involved in helping to bring Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) basketball and swimming to the parish.

He was appointed diocesan director of CYO in 1969, a position he held until 1974.
