>> Historic Win at Holy Cross

In the first-ever girls’ swimming event in school history, Holy Cross H.S., Flushing, freshman Haley Warman won the 200- yard freestyle, which makes her the first female student-athlete to win a race. Holy Cross went co-ed prior to the 2018-2019 school year.


>> Blvd. Battle

In this year’s “Battle of the Boulevard” game, the St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, varsity football team defeated Holy Cross H.S., Flushing, 25- 14 on Oct. 29. The rivalry game gets its name since these schools are located just 2.5 miles apart on Francis Lewis Boulevard in Queens.


>> Gym Reopens

A flood in the gymnasium at Corpus Christi parish, Woodside, has led to a brand-new floor. The floor recently received its second coat of paint and will be ready for some Catholic Youth Organization basketball action.


>> Hall Inductees

Msgr. McClancy H.S., East Elmhurst, will induct its 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame class on Nov. 19. This year’s inductees include:

Joe Cacchioli, ’74 (Baseball)
Mike Hamilton ’93 (Track and Field)
Mike Megaloudis ’98 (Soccer)
Stephen Wood ’06 (Basketball)
Former longtime teacher and athletic director Charlie O’Donnell

In addition, the Crusaders will honor three CHSAA varsity city championship teams: the 1990 basketball team, the 1990 soccer team, and the 1990 outdoor track-and-field team.
