Sports Round-Up June 22

Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood, finished the ‘AA’ Division varsity baseball season with a 16-2 record in league games en route to winning the Brooklyn-Queens regular season title and earning the No. 2 seed in the double-elimination city playoffs.

The Stanners beat Archbishop Stepinac H.S., White Plains, N.Y., in the first round but then fell to Iona Prep, New Rochelle, N.Y., in the second round. After a win against Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, Molloy was eliminated by Stepinac. Fordham Prep, the Bronx, was eventually crowned city champions.

For the first time, the GCHSAA named its All-League girls’ lacrosse team from team across the city. Three student-athletes from Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, earned the honor: junior Lauren Koenig, junior Olivia Serrano and junior Dakota Mancini.

The 2019 CHSAA golf season wrapped up with the state championship match on June 3 at James Baird State Park, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Among Brooklyn Diocesan teams, Noah Unger from St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, finished the highest, shooting an 82 for 12th place.
