Sports Round-Up Feb.18

The Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, junior varsity cheerleading squad competed for the first time in program history Jan. 21 at the CHSAA regional cheerleading competition at the College of Staten Island.

The Clippers competed in the small team division and had a strong showing.

The team is led by coaches Stefanie Frasca and Erin Richroath. The team members include Alexandra Alexandrou, Alyssa Beltran,
Aviana Finocchiaro, Briana Tzompa, Shawanna Watson, Emily McDonald, Gianna Granite, Hannah Savelli, Kinga Lewandowska, Lauren Savelli,
Mia Sanabria, Christie Liu, Ruby Manzoor, Samantha Tommaso and Reina Lazo.

St. Kevin’s parish, Flushing, Youth Guild will be hosting its annual baseball clinic featuring former professional baseball players to ring in the 2017 baseball season. The clinic takes place in the school gymnasium on March 25.

The first session is for grades nursery through three and begins at 2 p.m., and the second session is for grades four through eight and begins at 3 p.m.

Former New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesse Barfield and former Yankees designated hitter Ron Blomberg – the first DH in MLB history – will be teaching baseball skills at the clinic. The players will also be signing autographs for clinic attendees.
