Sister Ursula Lebold, O.S.U., a member of the Ursuline Sisters for 76 years, died on April 13. She was 96.
Sister Ursula, named Mabel, was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on April 6, 1924.
A graduate of John Adams High School in Ozone Park, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Manhattan College and a MA degree from Fairfield University after becoming an Ursuline Sister. Her first assignment as a young teacher was at Nativity B;M, Ozone Park, in the late 1940s and 1950s.
She also taught at St. Thomas the Apostle, West Harford, Conn., for a year, and then ministered in Administrative Hospitality at St. Ursula Convent from 1962 to 1966.
She was then a teacher at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Stamford, Conn., from 1966 to 1989. Sister Ursula was Coordinator for Retired and Infirm Sisters at St. Ursula Center, Blue Point, NY, from 1989 until retirement.
“She lived a beautiful life,” said her niece Eloise Forstbauer. “She made a big difference in people’s lives.” A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
