Sister Sylvine (Frances) Czarnecka, C.S.F.N.

Sister Sylvine (Frances) Czarnecka, C.S.F.N., a longtime educator who served at three parish schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn, died on Oct. 3 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent in Monroe, Conn. She was 95.

She entered the congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in 1941 from St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr, Ozone Park, and served as principal at Our Lady of Czestochowa, Sunset Park, (1968-1971) and as a teacher at Sts. Cyril and Methodius, Greenpoint (1989-90) and St. Stanislaus, Ozone Park (1990-98). She also served in education in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico. She retired in 1998.

“She was a woman of deep prayer and strong will who had a love for our community to the end of her life,” said Sister Barbara Sudol, C.S.F.N., superior of Immaculate Heart of Mary convent.

Her funeral Mass was held Oct. 7 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent in Monroe.
