Sister Prague Maria Fortier, O.P., a Sister of St. Dominic, Amityville, L.I., for 73 years, died Aug. 10. She was 91.
Following the example of her sister, Sister Bernadette Therese, now deceased, Adrienne Fortier entered the Dominican Congregation on Sept. 8, 1940 from the parish of Blessed Sacrament in Cypress Hills. She pronounced her vows on Aug. 4, 1941.
She taught primary grades at St. Margaret, Middle Village; St. Martin, Amityville; St. Barbara, Bushwick; St. Killian, Farmingdale, L.I.; St. Patrick, Huntington, L.I.; St. Aloysius, Ridgewood; and Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Jamaica.
She moved into ministry in health care services at Our Lady of Consolation Residence and at Mary Immaculate Hospital, Jamaica.
She later ministered in pastoral work at St. Joseph, Little Falls, N.Y., before moving to Florida, where she ministered to the parishioners of St. Cecilia, Clearwater; Our Lady of the Springs, Ocala; and Blessed Trinity, Ocala. She spent a year at Emmaus House of Prayer, Sullivan County, N.Y., and at The Bridge Ministries, Blairsville, Ga.
Sister Prague retired to Queen of the Rosary Motherhouse, Amityville, in 1999. She was instrumental in the completion of a shrine to Our Lady of the Holy Love, North Ridge, Ohio, with donations of statues no longer used in Amityville.
Sister Prague was a faithful and tireless visitor and comforter to her sister, Sister Bernadette Therese, and other religious sisters in Maria Regina Residence, Brentwood, L.I.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Albert’s Chapel, Amityville, Aug. 13.
Interment in the Sisters’ cemetery in Amityville followed.
