Sister Patricia Gibbons, R.S.M., 83, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Mid-Atlantic Community for 65 years, died Jan. 15 at Maria Regina Residence Brentwood, L.I.
Born in Queens, she attended St. Matthias School, Ridgewood, and Bishop McDonnell D.H.S., Crown Heights.
She entered the novitiate in Syosset in September, 1953 and professed her final vows in April, 1959.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, and a master’s in guidance and counseling from St. John’s University.
Formerly known as Sister Mary Coeli, she taught at St. Therese of Lisieux, East Flatbush, 1956-60; St. Brigid, Bushwick, 1960-67 and 1976-78; Queen of Angels, Sunnyside, 1967-69, and Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Syosset 1994-2004.
She was principal at Our Lady of Peace, Lynbrook, L.I., 1969-76, and St. Brigid, 1976-78. She also served as guidance counselor at Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Syosset, 1984-94.
She is survived by a sister, Edna Andreassi.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Syosset. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I.
