Sister Mary Ellen Bollman, O.P., 91, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic Amityville, L.I. for 58 years, died April 9. She was 77 years old.

She entered the Novitiate in Amityville on September 11, 1960.  She received her Dominican habit and her religious name, Sister Kenneth Mary, on August 5, 1961.  One year later, on August 8, 1962, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Queens College.

Her ministries included teaching pre-K in St. Pius V School, Jamaica, 1962-1983; Holy Spirit, New Hyde Park,1983-1993.

In 1993, Sister Mary transferred to the parish school of Notre Dame, New Hyde Park to teach Pre-K to Kindergarten where she remained until 2006. She also taught in the Religious Education Program and was a Eucharistic Minister.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Albert Chapel, Queen of the Rosary Motherhouse, Amityville, April 13.

  1. We knew Sister Kenneth, a wonderful nun and educator at Holy Spirit. However, she could not have been 91 and 77 years of age at the same time.
