Sister Mary Elizabeth Shea, R.S.M. a Sister of Mercy, South Central Community, died in St. Louis, Mo., Feb. 6. She was 84.
Born in New York, she graduated from Bayside H.S., Bayside. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1950 and professed perpetual vows six years later.
Sister Liz, as she was known, attended Misericordia University, Dallas, Pa.
Locally, she taught fourth grade at St. Boniface School in Sea Cliff, L.I., 1964-65, and sixth grade at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Bayside, 1969-70.
She also taught at several schools in Pennsylvania before moving to St. Louis, where she ministered as an administrative assistant at Mercy Conference and Retreat Center and as a volunteer attendant with a chemical dependency program.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis.
