Sister Margaret Ann (Peggy) Smith, S.S.N.D., 82, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame for 66 years, died Sept. 19 at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, Conn.
Formerly known as Mary Humilita, she taught at schools in Baltimore, Md.; Rochester, N.Y.; Lake Ronkonkoma, L.I., and Brooklyn, from 1956 to 1969.
She began training as a licensed nurse at St. Joseph Nursing School, Yonkers, and worked at Sloan Kettering in New York. At St. Vincent School of Nursing, she became a registered nurse in 1974 and served at Veterans Hospital, Mercy Health Care Center and Methodist Hospital, all in Brooklyn, through 2009.
From 1989 to 1993, she worked as a registered nurse at Winston Medical Temporaries in New York, and a health care coordinator/registered nurse at Federal Occupational Health Services. She later served as a library aide in St. Anselm School, Bay Ridge.
