Sister M. Francis Regis Vagt, I.H.M.

Sister M. Francis Regis Vagt, I.H.M., a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary for almost 65 years, died July 28, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, Pa. She would have turned 86 on Sept. 10.

Born in Savannah, Ga., she entered the congregation on Sept. 8, 1950 and made her temporary profession of vows on Aug. 2, 1953. Her final profession was exactly three years later.

She earned a bachelor of science and a master of science degree in elementary education from Marywood College in Scranton, and a professional degree in reading specialty from St. John’s University.

Locally, she taught at St. Ephrem Elementary School, Dyker Heights, 1973-84 and 1995-2015; and St. Peter of Alcantara in Port Washington, L.I., 1984-95.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 1 at Our Lady of Peace Residence, Scranton.

Burial followed at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pa.
