Sister Louise Sheehan, R.S.M., 94, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Mid-Atlantic Community for 73 years, died Oct. 17 at Mercy Center, Dallas, Pa.

She was born in Castletown Bere in Co. Cork, Ireland. She went to St. Michael’s School, Flushing, and Bishop McDonnell D.H.S., Crown Heights.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy Novitiate in Syosset, L.I., in September, 1945, and professed her final vows in September, 1951.

Formerly known as Sister Mary Venard, she taught at St. Agatha, Sunset Park, 1948-49; St. Brigid, Bushwick, 1949-53; St. Therese of Lisieux, E. Flatbush, 1953-60; St. Joseph the Worker, Patchogue, L.I., 1960-61; and St. Thomas Aquinas, Flatlands, 1961-62.

After serving as librarian at Mater Christi D.H.S., Astoria, 1962-63, she taught at Mercy H.S., Riverhead, L.I., 1963-75; St. Gerard Majella, Hollis, 1975-76, and St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, 1976-98.

She served as an adjunct professor at St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, 1998.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Sisters of Mercy Convent, Whitestone. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Flushing.
