Sister Kathleen Frances Lindsay, O.P.

Sister Kathleen Frances Lindsay, O.P., the founding principal of Our Lady of Hope’s parish school in Middle Village and a member of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville for 82 years, died on Sept. 26. She was 100.

She became the first principal of Our Lady of Hope in 1963 and served there for six years. A native of Manhattan, she entered the novitiate in 1937. She taught at Dominican Commercial H.S., Jamaica (1944-50); St. Catherine of . Siena, St. Albans (1950-53); and St. John the Evangelist, Riverhead, L.I. (1958-63).

Sister Kathleen served as a librarian at St. Nicholas H.S. in Williamsburg from 1969-72. During the latter part of her ministry, she served upstate, working with disabled people as a librarian, teacher and therapist.

Her funeral Mass was held on Oct. 1 at St. Albert Chapel at Queen of the Rosary Motherhouse in Amityville, L.I., followed by burial in the sisters’ cemetery.
