Sister Josephine Rooney, R.S.H.M., a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 76 years, who ministered in St. Anne’s Parish in Flushing for 26 years, died on Feb. 23. She was 87.

Born in Ireland, Sister Josephine served at St. Anne’s from 1987-2013, first as a member of the parish’s staff and then as a volunteer working with seniors in the parish.

Sister Josephine entered her congregation in Ireland in 1941 and professed her final vows in Marymount Convent in Tarrytown, N.Y., in 1949. She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Marymount College in Tarrytown, and taught at schools in New York and South America.

Her funeral Mass was held on Feb. 29 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. Her burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains, N.Y.
