Sister Jean Ruth Gregor, O.P., a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville for 64 years, died on Feb. 20. She was 88.
Born in Brooklyn, Sister Jean grew up in the parish of Fourteen Holy Martyrs in Bushwick. She entered the novitiate in Amityville, L.I., in 1953 and professed her vows in 1955.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Molloy College in Rockville Centre, L.I., and a master’s from CW Post/Long Island University. Both degrees were in history/social studies.
Sister Jean taught at St. Aloysius, Ridgewood; St. Hugh of Lincoln, Huntington Station, L.I.; Curé of Ars, Merrick, L.I.; and St. Agnes Cathedral School, Rockville Centre, where she worked for 32 years.
Her funeral Mass was held on Feb. 25 at St. Albert at Queen of the Motherhouse in Amityville. Burial followed in the sisters’ cemetery.
