Sister Helen Chasse, O.S.U. (Sister Margaret Ann), 74, died Dec. 28, 2017 at her home.
Born in Waterbury, Conn., she entered the Congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk in 1961 and professed final vows eight years later.
She earned a bachelor of arts degree in education and a master of arts degree in French from St. John’s University, as well as a master’s in pastoral studies from Loyola University, Chicago, Ill., and a certification in spiritual direction at the Institute for Spiritual Leadership.
She taught at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Ozone Park, 1966-69, and Our Lady of Victory in West Haven, Conn., 1969-85.
In 1985, she started ministering in spiritual direction and retreat work at St. Paul’s Cursillo House, Greenpoint. In 1995, she founded the Tabor Retreat Center, Oceanside, L.I., where she served as director for over 23 years.
She is survived by her mother, Margaret; three sisters, Fran Tompkins, Lori Hoyt and Linda Possidento; and a brother Bill Chasse.
