Sister Elizabeth V. Folles, R.S.M., a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Mid-Atlantic Community for 65 years, died at Maria Regina Residence, Brentwood, L.I., Jan. 11. She was 83.
Born in Brooklyn, she attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and Our Lady of Wisdom Academy, Ozone Park. She earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, and a master’s degree in pastoral ministry from Boston College, Mass.
Formerly known as Sister Mary Josette, she taught at St. Gerard Majella, Hollis, 1955-56; Holy Rosary, Bedford-Stuyvesant, 1956-64, and Sacred Heart, Adelphi St., Fort Greene, 1964-69.
She was principal of St. Patrick, Kent Ave., Williamsburg, 1969-74; religion coordinator at New Bedford/Stuyvesant J.H.S., 1974-78, and parish coordinator at St. Agnes, Degraw St., Carroll Gardens, 1978-86.
In 1986, she became director/manager at the Bishop Mugavero Apartments, Downtown Brooklyn, and then served as housing coordinator at the Sister Lucian Apartments, Bushwick, 1993-2004.
Failing health necessitated a move to Maria Regina Residence in 2005.
She is survived by her sister, Theresa, and her husband, Robert Breivogel.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Sisters of Mercy Convent, Whitestone.
Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I.
