Sister Anne Rita Cullen, S.C. (Sister Miriam Gerald), a member of the Sisters of Charity of New York, died Oct. 28, at Schervier Nursing Home, the Bronx. She was 95 and a member of the order for 77 years.
She served in various ministries as a teacher, religious education director and librarian, before serving at the NYC Department for the Aging, where she was able to assist many of the city’s senior citizens.
In 2004, she retired to the Convent of Mary the Queen, where she lived until 2015 when she moved to Schervier Nursing Care Center with other sisters.
Her first and only assignment in the Brooklyn Diocese was as a teacher at St. John the Baptist, Bedford-Stuyvesant, 1941-57.
