Selective Criticism

Dear Editor: Re “While in Colombia, Pope Has Venezuela on Mind” (Sept. 13).

I find the selective criticism that Pope Francis levels at national leaders inconsistent. He has been critical of President Trump while appearing to give the socialist dictator of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, a pass.

The pope has criticized President Trump over his immigration policies and his withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord. Meanwhile, the people of Venezuela are literally starving to death under Maduro’s failed socialist policies.

Such misery, hunger and poverty despite being an oil rich country. Very sad. Perhaps the Pope can address this humanitarian crisis.
