Dear Editor: The May 23rd Tablet featured two bishops-elect. What is a bishop-elect? Is it someone nominated by the pope but not officially anointed/ordained/ consecrated? (I’m not sure of the official name.)
It also talked about theologates. What is a theologate? I looked it up in Webster’s, and the word wasn’t there.
Where is K.U.L., Poland?
Wouldn’t it be better if The Tablet is designed for average, everyday Catholics, not “professionals”– i.e., nuns, priests, brothers, deacons, etc., – if it was clearer? I have a bachelor’s degree from a Catholic college and a master’s from a Catholic University. I’m well read. If I don’t understand, how many other everyday Catholics do?
NEEDS TO KNOW
Editor’s Note: A bishop-elect is someone who has been appointed bishop by the pope, but has not yet been ordained a bishop. A theologate is a place where one studies theology. K.U.L. refers to the Catholic University of Lublin, which had been mentioned in the previous sentence.
