Pro-Abortion Politicians

Dear Editor: Many of our fellow Catholics are voicing their opinion about the current turmoil in our country and are expressing different opinions about it. I believe that one of the most important issues is not being addressed sufficiently and that is the facilitation of abortionists by Catholics themselves.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church is clear. “Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so.”

Our clergy, I believe, have not addressed the role of their flock in putting into local, state, and federal office individuals who promote the practice of abortion and who routinely attach and denounce those who disagree. It is inescapable that Catholics cannot be true to their faith if they facilitate the abortionists through their voting choices. It is a serious blunder not to address, straight on, this issue.

Catholics who vote for abortionists are facilitating abortion. They cannot do this. If they do, they are not in communion with the Church.
