Prayers for the Cardinal

Last week, while presiding at the Stations of the Cross in his Co-Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, the Cardinal-Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, Daniel DiNardo, who is also the President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, suffered a stroke.

Cardinal DiNardo’s Chancery office released a statement that he will remain in the hospital for a few more days and then hopefully be transferred to a rehabilitation facility for recovery and therapy. The statement quotes the Cardinal: “With so much to do, I am looking forward to getting back to work as soon as possible.”

The Cardinal’s medical condition reminds us that our religious leaders are only human too.  They are subject to the same frailties that we all are.  At a time when it has become trendy to rage against those in leadership positions, instead let us pray for the Cardinal’s recovery and for the health of all our bishops in these particularly stressful times.
