Political Incorrectness

The tragedy of the Orlando nightclub massacre is the awful loss of life that occurred there. This largest terrorist incident since 9/11/01 reminds us that the threats from the radical sect of Islam continues to be a real factor in day-to-day life, not just in the United States but around the globe.

We mourn the deaths of those gunned down by this fanatical home-grown terrorist. While the easy accessibility of automatic rapid-fire weapons is problematic, gun control is not at the heart of this phenomenon. The real problem is the worldwide jihad that a limited number of radical Muslim advocates have engaged in.

Still, in the name of political correctness, some continue to refuse to identify this maniac as having anything to do with Islam. We agree that a few bad apples do not spoil the crop but we have to be realistic about where this threat originates and what should be done to stop it.

The FBI had engaged this man twice in recent years but found no reason to detain him. One wonders if the political correctness of politicians had anything to do with that decision.

Unless the country’s leadership sees this problem for what it is and rightly identifies it, incidents such as this vile action against gay people in Orlando will continue. We pray that American intelligence finds a better way to keep track of those who have been radicalized in our midst so that the public can be protected from such warped thinking.
