The New York Blood Center honored the parishes and schools in Brooklyn and Queens that had the highest number of collections during local blood drives. Auxiliary Bishop James Massa and officials of the Blood Center present members of St. Columba parish, Marine Park, with a plaque for being the top Brooklyn parish. A similar award is given to St. Margaret’s parish, Middle Village, for leading all Queens parishes. Other Brooklyn parishes cited were Good Shepherd, Marine Park, and Our Lady of Grace, Gravesend. Other Queens churches honored were Our Lady of Lourdes, Queens Village, and St. Nicholas of Tolentine, Jamaica. St. Edmund Prep H.S., Sheepshead Bay, was the top secondary school, while St. John’s University, Jamaica, was the leading university. The ceremony was conducted in McEntegart Hall at the Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston. Donation campaigns are coordinated by Denise DeFabio of the diocesan human resources office.
