Our Youth: Beam with the Christmas Spirit

The youth at Holy Family-St. Thomas Aquinas parish, Park Slope, are already itching to go to Poland for World Youth Day (WYD), 2016. So, the trip was on their minds even as they prepared for this Christmas season. They organized a fundraiser for WYD with a visit from Santa and a food sale.

The Franciscan Youth Ministry from St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, brought the Christmas spirit to the elderly at the Queen of Peace Residence, a nursing home operated by the Little Sisters of the Poor in Queens Village. They sang Christmas carols, delivered cards and letters and visited the residents in their rooms.

The National Honor Society at Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, organized a successful Relief Drive for the Philippines, collecting hundreds of items for those in need. Nina Santos-Becker from the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce came to pick up the relief supplies. These items will go directly to the victims in the Visayas Islands. Ten juniors – Harrison Jamin, Dylan Gittins, Anthony John Scotto, Brandon Smith, Anthony Scotti, Peter Mosconi, Christopher Nierva, Christopher Carroll, Joseph Tadros, Antonio Mannino and Joseph Gatto – helped load the donated good on Santos-Becker’s vehicle. She was very appreciative of Xaverian’s efforts and asks all to keep the victims in the Philippines in our prayers during this Christmas season.
