Obituary: Timothy Gilbride


Timothy Gilbride, a LAMP Missionary for the past six years serving at Holy Family parish, Canarsie, died on Pentecost Sunday, May 15, after a brief battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated May 19 at Holy Family Church. Concelebrants included Fathers Edward Kane, John Amann, and Jean-Augustin Francois.   Born in Brooklyn, his family members were parishioners at Holy Cross, Flatbush, and his mother was a secretary to Bishop Francis J. Mugavero.   He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and eventually moved to Arizona.  After retirement, he learned about LAMP Catholic Ministries through the Catholic Volunteer Network.  In 2009, he began his full-time service with LAMP. At Holy Family parish, he served as a chaplain at three nursing home. He is survived by three children, three brothers and their families.
