Obituary — Sister Sara Mooney, O.S.U.

Sister Sara Mooney, O.S.U., a member of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk, for 72 years, died Oct. 12 at Brookhaven Hospital, East Patchogue, L.I.

A native of County Monaghan, Ireland, she professed her final vows in 1945. She attended Manhattan College and St. Rose College.

Locally, she taught at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Ozone Park, 1943-45 and 1968-69; and Our Lady of Grace, Howard Beach, 1945-53. She also ministered from 1977 to 1989 as a home healthcare aide. In 1998, she retired in Blue Point, L.I., where she continued in a ministry of prayer.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 15 at the St. Ursula Center Chapel, Blue Point, L.I., followed by interment at the cemetery of the Ursuline Sisters in Blue Point.

  1. I will always miss our friendly debates. I now have a daughter, I didn’t name her Mary as you would have liked, but I didn’t name her Luna either. Be at peace sister. Namaste!
