Sister Mary Berard D’Amato, O.S.F., 89, died in Assisi House, Aston, Pa., on Feb. 23. She had been a religious sister for 73 years.
Born as Mary D’Amato, she grew up in Jersey City, N.J. She entered the Franciscan Sisters of Ringwood (a congregation that later merged with the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia) in 1940 and professed her first vows in 1942.
Her sister, Sister Concepta D’Amato, now deceased, also entered the congregation.
Sister Berard taught for 11 years in the Diocese of Brooklyn at St. Benedict School, Bedford-Stuyvesant, 1961-62, and at Holy Family School, Park Slope, 1950-60.
