Sister Helen Selaris, C.S.J., a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Brentwood, L.I., for 67 years, died on March 3.
She entered the congregation in 1942 from St. Rose of Lima parish, Parkville.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in French from St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, and certification in kindergarten education from Fordham University.
Formerly known as Sister Anne de Beaupre, she taught kindergarten and first grade at St. Martin of Tours, Bushwick, 1943-46; Our Lady of Sorrows, Corona, 1946-48; St. Brendan, Midwood, 1948-51; Our Lady of Victory, Floral Park, 1951-57; St. Martha, Uniondale, 1957-61; St. Vincent de Paul, Williamsburg, 1961-65; St. Michael, Sunset Park, 1965-71; St. Mel, Flushing, 1971-84; St. Charles Borromeo, Brooklyn Heights, 1986-90; and St. Agnes Seminary, Marine Park, 1990-92. She served as parish receptionist at St. Andrew Avellino, Flushing, 1984-86.
After residing in St. Edmund Convent, Sheepshead Bay, 1986-2008, she retired to Sacred Heart Convent, Hempstead, L.I. Poor health necessitated a move to Maria Regina Residence, Brentwood, in 2010.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held in Maria Regina Chapel, Brentwood, March 7. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
