Sister Eleanor Peters, R.S.M., 98, a Sister of Mercy for 77 years died Oct. 18, at Maria Regina Residence, Brentwood, L.I.

Born in Hoboken, N.J., she attended St. Aidan’s School, Williston Park, L.I., and Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Syosset, L.I.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy Novitiate in 1939 and professed her vows on Sept. 6, 1945.

Formerly known as Sister Mary Eunice, she attended St. John’s University and received an master’s degree in math from Fordham University.

She taught at the Convent of Mercy, Brooklyn, 1941-42; St. Gregory the Great, Crown Heights, 1942-44, and 1956-61; St. Jerome, East Flatbush, 1944-51; and St. Patrick, Bay Shore, L.I., 1955-56.

She was a guidance counselor at Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset from 1962 to 1981.

After her teaching career, she spent more than 25 years as a volunteer and chaplain at the United Presbyterian Home in Syosset, until failing health necessitated her move to Maria Regina.

Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I.
