Brother Cletus Burke, O.S.F., died Aug. 27. Born Daniel in Brooklyn, he entered the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn while a student at St. Anthony’s Juniorate, Smithtown, L.I.
He taught at Our Lady of Angels, Bay Ridge, and St. Francis Xavier in Park Slope, 1966-72.
During his two assignments at St. Anthony’s H.S., L.I., 1972-85 and 2006-15, he taught American history while also serving, at various times, as chairman of the social studies department, dean of students and assistant director of athletics.
From 1985 to 2006, he was director of athletics at St. John’s International School, Waterloo, Belgium; vice principal at Trinity Catholic H.S., Stamford, Conn., and assistant principal at St. Peter’s School, Greenville, N.C., and Mercy H.S., Riverhead, L.I.
Brother Cletus is survived by his brother, Francis, of Jacksonville, Fla., and his sister, Joan Bepler, of Patchogue, L.I.
Burial was at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, L.I.
