Deacon Jaime Landron, a deacon at Our Lady of the Presentation-Our Lady of Mercy parish in Brownsville, died Jan. 30 at Interfaith Medical Center, Brooklyn. He was 85.A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 2 at Our Lady of the Presentation Church. Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio was the main celebrant. Special concelebrants included Msgr. John Powis and Father Edward Mason. Msgr. Joseph Nugent preached the homily.
An electrician at Cabrini Medical Center, he was ordained a deacon on Dec. 1, 1979.
“He personified what a deacon should be,” said Msgr. Nugent. “He was a man of service to the church. He was a man of peace. He was humble and charitable and never was involved in any gossip.
“He was always very family-oriented, and he was always reaching out to the newcomers, the Hispanics, to the neighborhood.”
Deacon Landron, who retired from active duty in 2007, also coordinated the Legion of Mary in the parish.
Deacon Landron is survived by his wife, Isabel, and their two children. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village.
