Sister Jane Marie Dinsmore, a sister of St. Joseph for 73 years, died on Sept. 17.

Sister Jane grew up in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Richmond Hill with her sister, Caroline, and brothers, Joseph and Robert.

She graduated from the parish elementary school and from Stella Maris High School.

After working in the business world for three years, Jane entered the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Thomas Loretto.

She began her teaching career at St. Angela Hall Academy and subsequently taught at St. Brendan, St. Patrick, St. Charles Borromeo, and St. Mel elementary schools.

Having earned a BA from St. John’s University and an MS in business from Hunter College, Sister Jane taught business subjects at St. Pascal Baylon High School in St. Albans for six years.

Her expertise and knowledge of the world of business and employee relations brought her to Brentwood in 1975.

For the next 35 years, Sister Jane worked in the congregational finance office in various positions, utilizing her skills wherever needed.

Her listening ear, her gracious manner, and the respect and dignity with which she greeted each person made her the ideal person to guide and assist our employees in understanding and availing themselves of their benefits.

Ever a woman of prayer and quiet reflection, Sister Jane welcomed retirement as an opportunity to deepen her love of God, take advantage of ongoing education, and enjoy the fun-filled activities offered each day.

On Sept. 29, a Mass of Christian Burial was offered for Sister Jane in Sacred Heart Chapel, officiated by Father Sean Gann. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
