Sister Kathleen Birmingham, S.C., a Sister of Charity, Halifax, for 59 years, died Nov. 18 at Elizabeth Seton Residence, Mount St. Vincent, Wellesley Hills, Mass. She was 81.
She graduated from Ascension School, Elmhurst, before entering the congregation.
Formerly known as Sister Eugene Mary, she was a sixth-grade teacher at Resurrection-Ascension School,
Rego Park, 1963-75, and a religion teacher for fifth and sixth grades at Our Lady Help of Christians, Midwood, 1975-76.
She also ministered as a director of religious education at St. Thomas the Apostle, Woodhaven, 1980-88; Immaculate Conception, Jamaica, 1990-94, and St. Nicholas of Tolentine, Jamaica, 2001-03.
Sister Kathleen used her degree in library sciences to serve as a librarian at the Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston, and Cathedral Prep, Elmhurst.
She worked at the Maura Clarke-Ita Ford Center, Bushwick, 2003-08.
She is survived by four brothers, Donald, Eugene, Joseph and John.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Mount St. Vincent, Wellesley, Nov. 20.
Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham, Mass.
