Father James Michael Kelly, C.M., died Oct. 29 at Ozanam Hall, Bayside. He was 86.

Born in Brooklyn, he grew up in St. John the Baptist parish, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and attended Mary Immaculate Seminary in Northampton, Pa., and St. John’s University, Jamaica.

In his 59 years as a Vincentian priest, Father Kelly served in many missions: chaplain at Ozanam Hall; financial aid administrator at St. John’s University; parish priest in Jackson, Mich.; chaplain with rank of captain in the U.S. Air Force; a high school teacher in Philadelphia; and a missionary priest in Panama.

He is survived by his two sisters, Mary McKay of Garden City, L.I., and Sister Theresa Kelly, R.S.M., of Syosset, L.I.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the St. Thomas More Church on the St. John’s University Campus. Interment was at the Vincentians’ St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Princeton, N.J.

 

Thomas Ludwig, longtime singer and organist at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica, Sunset Park, died Nov. 23.

He is survived by his brothers Francis, John, Paul and Vincent, and his sisters, Dorothy Lorenzo and Mary.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.
