Very sorry to hear of the passing of Sr. Joan Maureen Cahill. I attended St. Aloysius and have very fond memories of her — she was a good woman. I also lived near St. Margaret. She was quite a presence.
I attended St. Mary’s Mother of Jesus School on 23rd Avenue in Bensonhurst between 1979-1981 and had Sister Anne Beverly as my 8th grade homeroom, Science and Religious Instructions teacher.. At the time, I was going through some personal issues dealing with the death of my grandfather and my homelife wasn’t exactly healthy as well. I was in a poor frame of mind to say the least.. I made Sister Anne’s life most difficult with my behavior in her classes. She never treated me like a child, and though I didn’t know it then, she really cared about me. She pushed me to be my best every day. She didn’t take any lip… She was tough but fair… I was just obstinate, though she wouldn’t give up on me. I went from a D to an B+/A- student with her and I’ll never forget her. Here’s to hoping you are looking down from heaven uppn me and see what ( i don’t mean to brag.. But.. ) a wonderful man, husband and father I turned out to be. Lots a love to you Sister Anne… Til later.. Kevin…
