Sister Anne Veronica Beverly, C.S.J., 81, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of  St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 59 years, died May 23, in Bishop Kearney H.S. Convent, Bensonhurst.
She entered the congregation from Sacred Heart parish, Fort Greene, in 1953.  She earned a B.A. in French from St. Francis College and an M.S. in Education from Brooklyn College.
She taught at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sunset Park, 1955-57; Mary’s Nativity, Flushing, 1957-1958; St. Patrick, Long Island City, 1958-1962; Transfiguration, Williamsburg, 1962-66; Colegio San Jose, San German, Puerto Rico, 1966-70; St. Charles Borromeo, Brooklyn Heights, 1970-77; Holy Name of Mary, Valley Stream, 1977-79; St. Mary Mother of Jesus, Bensonhurst, 1979-81; St. Angela Hall Academy, Brooklyn as principal of the elementary division, 1981-84; Holy Child Jesus, Richmond Hill, 1984-89); Holy Spirit, Borough Park, 1989-2004, and Catholic Migration Office, Brooklyn, in administration, 2004-2005.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.

Sister Grace Burke, O.P., 89, and a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic, Amityville, for 69 years, died May 28.
Born in Elmhurst, she attended St. Bartholomew School and Bishop McDonnell H.S., Brooklyn. On Feb. 2, 1943, she entered the order from St. Fidelis parish, College Point.   She took the religious name Sister Mary Grace.
She taught on the elementary level in St. Pancras, Glendale, and Notre Dame, New Hyde Park, 1944-1953.  She also taught English in Dominican Commercial H.S., Jamaica, 1953-67.  From 1967 to 1970, she was principal at Christ the King  School, Springfield Gardens.
She further served as librarian at St. Michael’s H.S., 1970-76,  and at Molloy College, Rockville Centre, 1976-1998.  From 1998 to 2005, she ministered in St. Joseph School, Garden City.  In 2005, she retired and lived in Notre Dame until she moved to Carlin Hall because of health reasons.
She is survived by her brother Joseph of Queens.  Burial was in the Sisters’ Cemetery in Amityville.

Sister Joan Maureen Cahill, O.P., 76, and a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic, Amityville, for 57 years, died June 4.
As a youngster, she lived in St. Fidelis parish, College Point, where she attended school.  She later attended Bishop McDonnell Memorial H.S., Brooklyn, and entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Dominic in 1954.
She taught at St. Aloysius, Ridgewood, 1956-66, and was principal there from 1969 to 1976.  She also taught at St. Joseph, Astoria, 1966-69; Queen of the Rosary Catholic Academy, Brooklyn, 1976-80; and was principal at St. Margaret, Middle Village, 1980-1994.
She was elected Regional Superior in 1995 and served until 2001.  She later was an instructor of continuing education in Lawrence P.S. #4, Inwood; Campus Minister at Kingsborough Community College, 2002-2008; and in her retirement in 2008, acted as volunteer in St. Virgilius parish, Broad Channel.
Burial was in the Sisters Cemetery, Amityville.

Peter Brennan, 76, a star basketball player at the now defunct St. Augustine H.S., Park Slope, 1950-54, died of prostate cancer June 8.
Raised in St. Matthew’s parish, Crown Heights, he went to play at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He was a member of the St. Augustine’s Hall of Fame.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Durham, N.C., where he had been living.
