NYPD Looking for Suspects in Defacing of Columbus Statue in Central Park

MANHATTAN — The NYPD released surveillance video on Tuesday of two vandals who spray-painted “Murderer” and “Give Us Our Land Back” on the Christopher Columbus statue located inside Central Park.

The attack on the statue occurred on the evening of Sunday, Feb. 26.

According to NYPD detectives, the two suspects sprayed, in red paint, words on the statue as well as spray-painting the top part of the pedestal of the statue.

The 130-year-old bronze and granite statue sits on the south end of The Mall, just north of the 65th Street Transverse.

The NYPD is asking anyone who may know the identity of the two individuals to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
