New Records Set at CYO Boys’ Swim Olympics

IMG_2777The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) of Brooklyn and Queens held its annual boys’ swimming Olympics Jan. 4 at the Eisenhower Park Aquatic Center in East Meadow, L.I.

The Olympics serve the purpose of preparing the young swimmers for the following weekend’s championships.

There were four CYO records broken at the meet, three of which were set by the St. Sebastian, Woodside, swim team.

In the Novice Division (age eight and under), St. Sebastian set a new record in the 100-yd. Medley Relay with a time of 1:15.63. The relay team is comprised of Kealan Kenny, Daniel Falcoa, Kieran Egan and Anthony Ortega.

The Bantam Division (ages nine and 10) 100-yd. Freestyle Relay team from St. Sebastian also set a new record at 56.71. The four swimmers on that relay team are Konrad Bzikot, Freddy Coronel, Derrick Chia and Kevin Zahariev.

In the Senior Division (ages 13 and 14), St. Sebastian’s Conor Mullin broke the record in the 100-yd. Freestyle with a time of 49.73. The previous CYO record had been standing since 1987.

In the Novice Division 25-yd. Backstroke, Matthew Beehler from the STORM swim team (combined team from Blessed Trinity, Breezy Point; Resurrection, Gerritsen Beach; and St. Mark, Sheepshead Bay) set a new record with a time of 17.93.
