Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio celebrated the Mass of Installation for the new deans. Joining in the celebration were Auxiliary Bishop Raymond Chappetto, vicar general; Auxiliary Bishop James Massa, moderator of the curia; the episcopal vicars, Msgr. Joseph Grimaldi (Brooklyn) and Very Reverend Thomas Pettei (Queens) in addition to the other 18 deans. The newly installed deans are, from row, from left, Father William Rueger, Brooklyn Deanery No. 4; Father Frank Black, Brooklyn No. 5; Msgr. Guy Massie, Brooklyn No. 3; and Father Marc Swartvagher, Queens No. 8. Deans promote and coordinate pastoral activity, fostering collaborative ministry among parishes and parish leaders within the deanery.
