Nazareth Basketball Teams Honored by City Council

The Nazareth R.H.S., East Flatbush, boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were recognized May 30 by Council member Jumaane D. Williams (D-Brooklyn), co-vice chair of the City Council’s Black, Latino and Asian Caucus.

Both the boys’ and girls’ teams won the Class ‘A’ City Championship this past spring. The players and coaches were invited inside City Hall for a special ceremony before the Stated Council meeting, where they were presented with official N.Y.C. proclamations commemorating their achievements.

“I am so proud of these student-athletes for excelling on the court while achieving in the classroom as well,” Council Member Williams said. “Nazareth Regional High School has long been a source of pride for the East Flatbush community for its athletic and scholastic triumphs. They show all of our young people what is possible with hard work and dedication. I anticipate celebrating future championships with Nazareth in the years ahead!”

 Th boys’ team became the first to move up a division and still win the City Championship. The team captured last year’s Class ‘B’ crown. Under the leadership of head coach Todd Jamison and assistant coaches Mike Camacho, Shelton Quinton and Val Watson, the team was made up of Ammad Alkulaidi, Daniel Beausejour, Naquan Chandler, Clarence Ciceron, George Cristaff, Tristan Duncan, Tishean Emmauel, Emmauel Megafu,Brandon Mignott, Akilo Samson, Samson Usilo and Patrick Villefrenche.

 The girl’s earned their third straight trip to Albany, N.Y., for the state Federation tournament. This year’s squad was led by head coach Ron Kelley and assistant coaches Lauren Best and Dwight Shaw and included players Yasmine Belk, Tyra Blowe, Shiclasia Brown, Robyn Camacho, Bianca Cuevas, Jennifer Fay,Deja Hererra, Shalix Hines, Britney Jackson, Niya Johnson, Ijeoma Onwuekwe, Sofia Roma and Linda Ulasi.

The proclamations were signed by Council Member Williams, Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn (D-Manhattan) as well as the Council’s entire Brooklyn delegation. The players and coaches also received individual City Council citations and golden lapel pins courtesy of Council Member Williams.
