The New York Mets selected St. John’s University, Jamaica, junior right-handed pitcher Tom Hackimer in the 15th round of last week’s MLB Draft.
Hackimer went to St. John’s by way of Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood.
He was a shortstop for the legendary coach Jack Curran’s Stanners team but was converted to a pitcher upon his arrival in college.
He led the Big East Conference with 15 saves this past season, mainly relying on his sinker.
He was a 2012 Tablet First-Team All-Star.
