Men of Service to Be Honored with Cathedral Prep’s Immaculata Award

Cathedral Preparatory School and Seminary, Elmhurst, will gather on Saturday, May 14, for its 18th annual Alumni Reunion and Immaculata Dinner, which this year celebrates “A Salute to Service.”

The Immaculata Award, the school’s highest award to alumni, will be presented to:

Msgr. John Delendick ’68, FDNY chaplain, and pastor of St. Jude parish, Canarsie;

Msgr. Robert Romano ’68, NYPD chaplain, and pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish, Dyker Heights; and

The late Frank Palombo ’73, firefighter, who died while responding to the 9/11 terrorists attacks on the World Trade Center.

Both Msgrs. Delendick and Romano are being honored for their roles in the 9/11 tragedy.

Msgr. Delendick, who narrowly escaped death that day, spent many hours over the next eight months bringing families to the Trade Center Site, officiating at memorial services and funerals.

Msgr. Romano also responded to the attacks. In the aftermath, Msgr. Romano celebrated Mass on every Sunday and Holy Day for the families and members of the Emergency Service Unit at Ground Zero.

Additionally, the school will honor those graduates marking their 50th and the 25th anniversaries of graduation.

The event will be held at Cathedral Prep with Mass at 5 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner.
