Letters to the Editor

Letters to the Editor Week of Nov. 27, 2021

Thank You, Bishop DiMarzio

Dear Editor: Thanks to Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of the Diocese of Brooklyn for his long, detailed, and informative article in the Nov. 12 issue of The Tablet (“Child Victims Act Lawsuits Reveal More Facts About Sexual Abuse Cases”) describing what our diocese has done under his direction to address clergy sexual abuse of children.

As a civil rights lawyer, I am used to defendants being less than forthcoming about past crimes and misconduct.

In the past, the Church was no different.

Bishop DiMarzio has been open and shown remarkable candor; anyone who really cares about how the problem of child sexual abuse is being addressed should read his account.

Be grateful for his leadership.

Feeding Our Brothers and Sisters

Dear Editor: On Oct. 2, 2019, Mónica Romero-Amador interviewed me for a story — “Filling Stomachs and Feeding Souls in Crown Heights for 20 Years.”

Two years later, we are still helping — every third Saturday of the month starting at 10 a.m. — but we are now located at 2402-14 Atlantic Avenue between Sackman and Hinsdale.

I hope that you will let people know that we are still here, just at a change of location.

A Happy Thanksgiving Holiday

Dear Editor: As we prepare to
celebrate this upcoming Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, we certainly should be grateful for what we have, especially after what we have been going through for the last 21 months due to the COVID19 pandemic.

At least now we have three vaccines, as well as boosters to help combat this virus, and more people are continuing to receive the vaccines. Let us all remember all those who have died due to COVID19, as well as all of our medical personnel, first responders, and all of the other thousands of essential workers and volunteers who have helped our country through these most trying of times.

Let us also remember all of our men and women in the various branches of our military who continue to serve our country, both home and abroad.

Let us ask God’s blessings upon all of these wonderful people and our country, and for his continued protection.

I would like to extend to all my fellow Americans my very best wishes for a very happy, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving holiday.

Congratulations Bishop DiMarzio

Dear Editor: We would like to congratulate Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his elevation to the episcopacy.

Bishop DiMarzio has been a staunch supporter of The Helpers of God’s Precious Infants since his arrival in the Brooklyn Diocese in 2003.

He and several of the auxiliary bishops have led prayer vigils for the Helpers and we are very much appreciative of his support. At least two abortion facilities have closed in the diocese during Bishop DiMarzio’s time as ordinary, including the infamous Ambulatory Surgery in Brooklyn where over 250,000 abortions had been performed before its closure.

We would like to thank the good Bishop, and once again offer our congratulations.
