Thank You for Currents News Coverage

Dear Editor: Jessica Easthope and Currents News, NET-TV — thank you for choosing my story about my Polish heritage as the opening feature of the Catholic News special “Belief Beyond Borders,” highlighting immigrants and parishioners of the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Thank you for every story featured in this special. Thank you on behalf of the Polish community.

When it aired, I was scared and hesitant to watch. It was the first time I would see how our stories were presented. When I finally did, I felt deeply humbled.

Easthope’s personality reflects everything I value: warmth, heart, professionalism, and empathy. She quickly put my hesitation at ease. I had just one request — I did not want this to be a story about me, but about my faith, Polish culture, and heritage.

I wish there were more journalists who would take the time to visit diverse cultural communities and attend the many wonderful events organized by ethnic parishes.

These communities contribute richly to the social and cultural fabric of our society, yet their stories and traditions are often underrepresented in mainstream media. Ethnic parishes regularly host cultural, spiritual, and charitable events that foster unity, preserve heritage, and promote mutual understanding among different communities. Our faith is bringing us together.

I am thankful to Jessica Easthope for your time, dedication, and incredible work. Thank you for showing my parish of 30 years — Holy Cross.

A Pro-Life Key to Success

Dear Editor: Thank you for publishing the article by Marietha Gongora V. about the passage of the Personhood Law in The Tablet (“Catholic Governor Signs Personhood Law for the Unborn in Puerto Rico,” Jan. 10).

The enactment of a law that recognizes the unborn child — conceived but not born — as a natural person from conception truly is “a historic victory for babies and moms … and a powerful example for lawmakers throughout the United States.”

Recognizing the Personhood of the unborn child as a scientific reality is the key to future success for the pro-life movement.

Needed: A Prophetic Voice for Immigrants

Dear Editor: I am responding to a Letter to the Editor from Dominic Preziosi (“Walking with Migrants,” Jan. 17).

I agree with his praise of Bishop Emeritus Nicholas DiMarzio’s column on critical points in immigration history (“Critical Points in Immigration History,” Dec. 20, 2025).

I also cite his call to go further and include the calling out by name of the architects of the government’s current immigration enforcement policy.

Preziosi correctly says that a problem must be named before it can be solved.

I feel we need bring this even a step further. The naming and identifying of the problem needs to also include the many Catholics, who have and some of whom even continue to support the current administration and its immigration policy.

This is a crucial moment in our nation’s history as well as Church’s history. We all need to respond with a prophetic voice.
