For the fourth straight year on Thanksgiving, the LaGuardia Community College, Long Island City, women’s basketball team served meals to those in need at The Catholic Worker St. Joseph House in Manhattan.
The practice has become a holiday tradition for the Lady Red Hawks and head coach Anthony Alfaro, a parishioner at American Martyrs parish, Bayside.
“When you are humbled by the reality that others are in a worse financial situation than yours, you can only be thankful for what you have,” Alfaro said. “This is a maturing process that can only be experienced by actually seeing it for yourself. I know my Lady Red Hawks got a tremendous eye-opening experience that will stay with them the rest of their lives.”
