Casey O’Shaughnessy, a junior guard on the Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst, varsity basketball team, scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 31. The milestone was part of a 38-pt. effort.
She became the ninth player in program history to accomplish the feat, joining Megan McGovern (1984), Marguerite Moran (1984), Deirdre Byrnes (1991), Kerry Ansbro (1995), Janelle McManus (2000), Caitlin Boyle (2003), Maria Laterza (2007) and Samantha Retas (2011).
O’Shaughnessy is a two-time Tablet All-Star. Last season, she averaged 16.0 pts., 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
The boys’ varsity basketball team from Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood, competed in the 10th annual SNY Invitational Tournament Jan. 26-27 at City College of New York, Manhattan.
The Stanners finished in fourth place. The tournament was established in January 2008 to create an annual event that would highlight SNY’s involvement in the community while bringing together top New York area high school teams.
In 10 years, SNY has donated more than $325,000 in scholarships to participating schools. Molloy received a $5,000 SNY Play Ball grant this year.
Amani Tatum, a senior guard and team captain on the Manhattan College, the Bronx, women’s basketball team, recorded her 300th career assist on Jan. 28. She is a graduate of Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood, and was a 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 Tablet All-Star.
