Thomas Duffy, a financial services professional with the Charter Oak Insurance and Financial Services Co., is receiving the Irish Man of the Year Award. He has more than 32 years of finance experience and a proven track record as a top executive leader in world-class organizations.
He began his finance career in 1987 at Ernst & Whitney, now Ernst & Young. He participated in audits, tax planning and general consulting for many of his clients.
He was recruited by one of his top clients, Major League Baseball, as controller in 1990. His responsibilities included overseeing the financials of all league and teams operations, including the implementation and evaluation of executive benefit plans, league-wide insurance plans, Minor League health benefits for 17,000 players as well as responsibility of the non-uniformed pension plan. In 1993, he was promoted to chief financial officer of Major League Baseball Properties, the marketing arm for Major League baseball.
He is the co-founder of Sports Angels, Inc., a charity that provides assistance to youth, youth sports programs and underprivileged, physically challenged kids.
