Holy Cross Seniors Use Artistic Talents to Help Breast Cancer Research

Students at Holy Cross  H.S., Flushing, sold student designed T-shirts to raise money for foundations dedicated to education and research concerning the causes, treatment and cure for breast cancer.

These Holy Cross freshmen are wearing T-shirts designed by seniors.  Standing from the left are Richie Mazze, Chris Cadigan, Andrew Peck and Timothy Eliades.

The $10 shirts were designed by seniors Matthew Bedrossian, Peter Velez, and Thomas White, and feature the phrase “Holy Cross Knights Fight for the Women in their Lives.”  Shirts were available for sale to the Holy Cross community for the past two weeks, and those students who made a purchase became eligible to sport the new garment during a dress-down day on Feb. 10.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Holy Cross students have rallied for the cause. Last year students raised about $7,000.

The project is spearheaded by Cathy Kenny, junior class moderator and coordinator of the Science Research Program at the school, who is herself a breast cancer survivor.

“There is so much compassion and spirit in the young men of Holy Cross and this initiative,” she said. “As is the case in all of our ‘serve and learn’ programs at Holy Cross, the Knights for a Cure program provides our outgoing seniors with a better understanding of this disease as they continue on life’s journey and our incoming freshmen will be welcomed into the educational process.”
