Irish Man of the Year – John F. Tully

IRISH MAN OF THE YEAR
The Great Irish Fair honors a man who is recognized for the leadership that he provides in all of his endeavors and for the compassion and care that are part of his daily life in service to others.

Lawyer John F. Tully is receiving the Irish Man of the Year Award, an honor that would inspire pride in his grandparents who hailed from Cavan and Galway.
Born and raised Brooklyn, he is a product of Catholic education, beginning at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sunset Park, and graduating from St. Ephrem, Dyker Heights. He attended Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, and St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights. He earned his law degree from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind.
Presently, he is of counsel in the New York office of the law firm Norton Rose Fulbright.
Tully began his 44-year legal career working in the public sector as an assistant district attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, a trial attorney in the New York Regional Office of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and an assistant attorney general in the Organized Crime Task Force of the N.Y. State Attorney General’s Office.
He then spent 27 years with ExxonMobil Corporation’s law department, retiring in 2004 as the assistant general counsel in charge of litigation.
Irish America Magazine honored him as a member of its Irish Legal 100.
He is the immediate past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 7; a member of the Knights of St. Patrick; and served as an aide to the grand marshal for the 2014 New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He is also chair of the Celtic Cruise to benefit the Emerald Isle Immigration Center.
A parishioner at Blessed Trinity parish, Breezy Point, he serves as the chairman of the board of trustees at his alma mater, St. Francis College.
Tully and his late wife of 43 years, Maureen, were blessed with two children, Amy and John, and two grandchildren, Maisie and Catherine.
